More than 2 million Americans have lupus, a chronic autoimmune disease marked by fatigue, pain and inflammation which can affect the skin, joints, kidneys, heart, lungs, and brain. It is a disease that is difficult to diagnose and can be potentially fatal. Some common symptoms include: achy or painful joints, low-grade fevers, fatigue, skin rashes, hair loss, and/or nose or mouth ulcers.

Some more lupus facts are: 9 out of 10 patients are young women, and women of African-American, Latino, Asian and Native American descent are affected up to three times more than Caucasian women; children and men can also manifest the disease; and, unfortunately, a proper diagnosis may take up to five years and seven or eight doctors. This is precisely why awareness and education about lupus are so crucial for a correct and timely diagnosis. You or someone you know may need assistance. We have information and services to help. We’re here for you.

Make this National Women’s Health Week count! It’s Your Time …So take the time to learn about lupus today!
