August 21, 2007 - Kevin Cain, president and CEO of the John Rex Endowment, announces today that nominations for the 2007 Hands of Health award are now being accepted. The award recognizes individuals who are leading the way in enhancing the health of underserved children and youth in Wake County. The deadline for nominations is September 7.
“There are many amazing people who continue to make a positive impact on the children and youth in our community by coming up with new and innovative ways to improve their health and well-being,” says Cain. “This is a chance for us to say ‘Thank you’ for the dedication these individuals show each day.”
The winner of the Hands of Health award will be honored with a specially commissioned bronze sculpture. In addition, the John Rex Endowment will donate $10,000 to the winner’s charity of choice. Now in its fourth year, the award presentation will be held at an invitation-only event on October 23 at the Exploris Museum in Raleigh.
Past winners of the award include Peter Morris, MD, Don Rosenblitt, MD, Mark Piehl, MD and Yo Soba. On their behalf, the Endowment has made donations to the North Carolina Pediatric Society Foundation, the Lucy Daniels Center for Early Childhood, the Durham Rescue Mission/Good Samaritan Inn, Camp Challenge Diabetes Camp at Camp Oak Hill and Camp Grace at A.E.
