New York, NY (1888PressRelease)
May 19, 2007 - John Porro uses stark, economical lines to let the human body tell visual stories about the world around him. His drawings pay subtle homage to the work of the German Expressionists, and particularly to Austrian artist Egon Scheile.
However, Porro goes beyond Scheile and enters a sphere of intimacy with his subjects. Porro’s focus is divided equally between the lines, the spaces created by those lines, and the jagged spaces that surround what the artist calls his “animal people”. Porro’s eye is everywhere.
He turns his artistic vision towards all manner of subjects—and explores them all with the same unrelenting acuity. Porro, who was born in London, now lives and works in Scotland. His work has been exhibited, and received award recognition, including sharing the top honors at the Celveland International Drawing Biennale at the Middlesbrough Gallery, throughout England.
