Jewellery Design And Technology Institute Presents ‘Opus 2008'

Jewellery Design and Technology Institute, part of the Bombay Stock Exchange listed Silver Smith India Ltd., organized its 8th annual graduating fashion show ‘Opus 2008’ at Square One Mall, Saket, South Delhi. JDTI imparts training for jewellery designing and manufacturing to provide skilled labour to the ever growing jewellery industry.

JDTI is supported by World Gold Council and promoted by the Indo-German Export Promotion Project implemented by GTZ (the Gesellschaft fuer Technische Zusammenarbeit, German agency for Technical Co-operation), facilitating technology transfer from Germany for select Indian companies.

The theme for OPUS 2008 was “Trends and their influences 2008”. 17 bright jewellery designers, who were a part of the JDTI batch graduating this year, presented the collection of 42 pieces showcased by leading models of the country. The first collection showcased was from Nichč, Silver Smith India Limited’s retail jewellery brand, which presented stunning designs of belts, armbands, jhoomars and anklets.

The hosts of the evening were Mr.B.K.Narula, Chairman & Managing Director, Silver Smith India Ltd., along with Mr. Raakesh Agarvwal, leading fashion designer. The panel of judges included Ms. Chanda Narang, CEO, Frazer and Hawz and Mr. Mandeep Singh, Director, Reeds Exhibition.

Speaking on the occasion Mr.B.K.Narula said ‘JDTI’s annual graduating fashion show provides the right platform to the budding talents of the jewellery industry. This not only helps the students showcase their creative flair but also is the right place for the industry in their hunt for the best creative brains for jewellery industry”.

Mr. Raakesh Agarvwal, Fashion Designer said ‘Indian designers are now looking at representing India on the world forum and JDTI is among the best trainer to train students on innovation, creativity and global businesses. The students’ collection is a unique blend of traditional and modern techniques. It’s my privilege that I got an opportunity to style the clothing of the models presenting the jewellery designs from JDTI”.

The entire show was categorized into 3 themes of Utopia, Euphoria and Spectacle. Taking an inspiration from life, future, life after unfriendly and cold world of cyber futurism. A clear balance between nature and technology were also felt in the jewellery design of the students.

6 awards for the excellence in different fields of jewellery designing and manufacturing were given to JDTI students. The awards were categorized into Innovation in Technique, Innovative use of material, Commercially viable collection, Faculty award for the best student of the year, WGC award for the most innovative project, the ramp appeal award.
