June 23, 2009 - Kuan & Partners, Hong Kong law firm, announced today that Jessica Spenser, formerly with Smith & Lloyd, New York, will be joining the firm as of counsel in August.
Originally from Hong Kong, Ms. Spenser has been practicing as a securities lawyer in the United States for over 14 years. She has represented NASDAQ-listed companies in their ongoing SEC reporting and maintenance work, commodity pool operators, trading advisors and hedge fund sponsors. She has also handled the formation and structuring of hedge funds and commodity pools, advised multinationals in their foreign investment activities in China, including mergers and acquisitions and greenfield investments, and assisted U.S. emerging growth companies in their early-round financings and IPOs.
"Jessica's deep expertise as a U.S. securities lawyer strengthens our bench in Hong Kong, especially with regard to our China-based public companies practice," said Michael Xu, head of Corporate and Business Law Department. In addition, Ms. Spenser has been a consistent contributor to professional publications and a speaker at professional events. She was a guest lecturer at Beijing University Law School in 2003, speaking on U.S. securities laws and IPOs. She frequently speaks on doing business in the U.S. to Chinese and other non-U.S. companies. She is also a frequent speaker on diversity issues.
Ms. Spenser received her undergraduate education in The Netherlands, at Tillburg University, graduating in 1983, and an M.A. in Economics from the University of New York, in 1987. She received her J.D. from the University of Illinois College of Law, magna cum laude, in 1993.
Ms. Spenser speaks fluent English, Cantonese, and Mandarin. She also speaks Dutch and has some proficiency in French.
