March 04, 2009 - As we watched Kyle Busch qualify on the Pole, change his motor due to a engine failure, hit the wall in practice, start tail of the field and capture his first ever NASCAR ® Sprint Cup Series at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Although, a tremendous feat that does not happen very often in this series, it is by far overshadowed by the results of this week's 2009 NASCAR Challenge.
Now the first two weeks were boring in not only our league standings but also the races were sleepy as well. Daytona shortened by rain, Califorina flagged for caution five times for rain and eventually stopped by Mother Nature, but we finally go some excitement in Vegas. We had drivers speeding on pit road, missing pit boxes, wrecks, and blown engines. By the way, Kenseth killed Two Big Lugs this week, top 5 last week 23rd this week.
This week the drivers that were used were either winners or busts. Winners were Kyle Busch, Jeff Burton, and Jeff Gordon. Busts were Matt Kenseth, Jimmy Johnson, and Kurt Busch. The Pit Lizards vaulted up three places into the points lead with their selection of Burton. The owner was quoted as saying, “I did my research and I plan to win it all this year.” We will see after this week, they have Dale Earnhardt Jr, who seems like he cannot get out of his own way this year. Other driver picks to watch this week, Mark Martin, Martin Truex Jr, and Bobby Labonte. My surprise pick for this week will be Bobby Labonte.
