Jason Steele Responds To Florida Today Editorial

In a response to “Wasting Time” editorial opinion by Florida Today Jason Steele, candidate for Florida House of Representatives House District 31, said “one man’s ‘waste’ of time is another man’s important issue.

Orlando, FL (1888PressRelease) March 20, 2008 - Satellite Beach. In a response to “Wasting Time” editorial opinion by Florida Today Jason Steele, candidate for Florida House of Representatives House District 31, said “one man’s ‘waste’ of time is another man’s important issue. The Right to Life is never a waste of time. How one can take the leap from an ultrasound to infringing on a woman’s constitutional right to chose is an astounding leap. While I am unquestionably pro-life, I fail to see that allowing a waiting period and an ultrasound stops a woman from making an informed choice.”

Florida Today has printed an opinion stating the ultrasound is an ideological “ploy” in an effort to block a woman’s right to choose. In the same editorial a number of issues that the editorial board has deemed “frivolous bills” such as insuring creationism is included in classrooms and a person’s right to bear arms was also labeled as “wasting time”.

“As a ‘social conservative’ it is my opinion that allowing for diverging ideas is the stuff this country was founded on. Creationism is a part of many individuals’ beliefs and the editorial staff should not fear this inclusion in the classroom. Freedom of speech is a fundamental right that does not only belong to the media but to the people as a whole,” said Mr. Steele.

“As for the right to bear arms resolution, the bill allows for legal permit holders to secure their weapons in their vehicles while at their place of employment. This does not deny firms from regulating their workplace but only ensure the second amendment rights of our citizens,” Steele said.
