July 02, 2009 - James Berry, the award-winning British film producer and director behind the acclaimed short See You Later, has been tapped to direct the new project, Flyhalf Number 10- an original screenplay also penned by Berry. This endeavor reunites Berry with See You Later’s executive producers Andrew Logan and Justin Liberman.
A coming-of-age drama about a brilliant,working-class rugby player, Flyhalf Number 10 will see Berry return to Durham, England- the north east region where Berry attended college. Producer Andrew Logan describes, “This is a touching story that combines grit with moments of genuine, heartfelt emotion that will capture people’s imaginations and appeal to a wide audience. James is an incredible talent, whose work has a maturity and sophistication that has produced a truly unique screenplay.” “I’ve admired James’ skills and talent for storytelling for quite some time. His work with actors is exceptional and his ability to put together a first rate cast and crew always produces a film of the highest quality. This is going to be an exciting project for everyone involved,” added producer Justin Liberman.
After graduating with a law degree from England’s prestigious Durham University, Berry honed his craft at Raindance- one of London’s premiere film schools, and home to such directorial talent as Christopher Nolan and Guy Ritchie. Berry then ventured stateside and shot The Break-In- marking his first collaboration with award-winning Director of Photography Andrew P. Waruszewski, and acclaimed composer Patrick Kirst. The Break-In premiered at the 2008 LA Shorts Fest, and garnered Berry Panavision’s prestigious Young Filmmakers’ Award. Other past recipients of the award include Steven Soderberg and Paul Thomas Anderson.
Following the success of The Break-In, Berry reunited with his crew, and executive producers Logan and Liberman to lens See You Later- which premieres as an official selection at the LA Shorts Fest 2009. See You Later builds on the success of The Break-In- and combines Berry’s distinct, evolving visual style with his ability to draw gritty, emotionally intimate performances from his actors.
Berry recently completed Noche Sin Cielo- his third producing credit with director Benjamin Williams. In addition, Fitz and Keep Off The Grass, both due for release in November 2009, were produced by Berry.
