  • New York, NY (1888PressRelease) August 21, 2014 - "Brooklyn Bowl blows our minds. It's one of the most incredible places on Earth," says Rolling Stone. This popular NY venue specializes in good food, including its 'world famous fried chicken,' Brooklyn-brewed beer and great music by some of the nation's most promising rising stars. Both of Jambalaya Brass Band's CDs, It's a Jungle Out There and On The Funky Side, resulted in heavy broadcast radio rotation nationwide, as well as countless national and worldwide Internet radio stations, and charted in the top five of the CMJ Charts, JazzWeek and The Roots Music Report Charts. This tight and tasty ensemble is the ultimate New Orleans party band which On The Funky Side reaffirms yet again with style and gusto, and Jambalaya Brass Band live is a flat-out celebration from start to finish.

At Brooklyn Bowl, along with tunes from On the Funky Side and their previous successful CD It's a Jungle Out There, Jambalaya Brass Band will be performing other original and traditional favorites. The band's foundation will be provided by Ralph Hamperian on sousaphone, Kevin Raczka on snare drum, and Chauncey Yearwood on Bass Drum & cymbal-and this rhythm section cooks on high octane, so be sure to wear your dancing shoes! Filling out this tasty gumbo and adding the spice on top will be the trombone of Stafford Hunter, the trumpets of Steve Gluzband, and Satoru Ohashi, and the tenor sax of leader and founder Ric Frank, an alumnus of the Duke Ellington Orchestra.

" Jambalaya could stand side-by-side with any New Orleans brass band in terms of sheer exuberance and energy a party from start to finish." - Henry Smith for All About Jazz.

The Jambalaya Brass Band is a group of seasoned musical pros from a variety of impressive previous musical settings as diverse as the Duke Ellington Orchestra to the Lounge Lizards, yet they have a knack for integrating these disparate musical experiences into one dynamic setting. These seasoned New York purveyors of authentic American 'roots' music play a delightful spicy musical gumbo of New Orleans fare influenced by the likes of Buddy Bolden, Jelly Roll Morton, Louis Armstrong, Rebirth and Dirty Dozen brass bands, straight through to the heights of their own modern sounds that incorporate elements of R&B, Gospel, Funk, Latin and Be-bop. They embody the history of the best American music of the last hundred years while at the same time suggesting a prescient trajectory of America's musical future. The Band's arrangements are original and innovative while the playing is simultaneously precise and spontaneous, yet all is conceived with imagination and wit. After-all, this is New Orleans party music and Jambalaya Brass Band is always a joyous musical celebration as they have proven on many occasions. Playing both On the Funky Side and It's A Jungle Out There at a party is a sure bet, and seeing these talented players live really brings the party directly home to you.
