May 22, 2009 - Political beliefs aside, there is no question that President Barack Obama has become one of the most recognizable figures in the world. And while his image is splashed across televisions and newspapers it is rare to catch an image of the President enjoying his free time. The Brooklyn-based toy company Jailbreak Toys is out to change that with an online photo contest that will show a side of the President few ever see. Well maybe not the President himself...but close enough.
Jailbreak Toys announces the launch of the PHOTOBAMA FREESTYLE CONTEST, an online photo contest that asks participants to take and share pictures of what President Obama does ‘behind the scenes.” Starring in the contest in place of the President will be the popular Obama Action Figure.
Contestants are encouraged to show the President in his free time; where he goes, who he spends with and what he does. In lieu of the actual President, who was too busy to participate, the star of the competition will be the next best thing...the globally popular Obama Action Figure.
The six-inch, expertly sculpted figure was created by artist and Jailbreak Toys founder Jason Feinberg in support of then Senator Obama’s run for the Democratic nomination. It went on to become a ‘must-have’ for Obama fans throughout the world, was chosen for inclusion in the National Museum of American History exhibit on Presidential memorabilia and has received widespread print and national television media attention including being called the “Tickle Me Elmo of the Holiday Season” by the N.Y. Daily News.
The idea of the contest came about when Obama Action figure owners began sending in unsolicited photos and videos of the Lil’ President in action. “We first noticed some videos using the Obama figure popping up on You Tube during the campaign,” said Feinberg from his Brooklyn, N.Y. studio. “And then we started receiving a lot of really creative photos. People seem to really connect with the figure and see the visual possibilities so we wanted to create a platform to have some fun.”
The PHOTOBAMA FREESTYLE CONTEST launches on May 21st with photos submissions accepted through June 29th. The photos will then be opened for online voting which closes on August 7th. Prizes awarded for the most votes include the Flip MinoHD™, The World's Smallest HD Camcorder, signed, Limited-Edition Obama Figures and the yet-to-be released, highly anticipated Michelle Obama Action Figure.
Contest link can be found on the Jailbreak Toys website.
