  • Valdosta, GA (1888PressRelease) June 03, 2016 - NFL linebacker Telvin Smith will return to his hometown of Valdosta, Georgia to host a fun filled day of free activities for youth at his alma mater, Lowndes High School. The inaugural event will take place on Saturday, June 18th and is open to youth, ages 6-16.

The Telvin Smith Valdosta "Game Changer" Youth Day will feature a free football and cheer camp, a post camp BBQ, and a proclamation from the Mayor, among other activities. Smith will be joined by several of his NFL peers and top area coaches as they provide instruction on correct and safe techniques of the game. Experienced cheer coaches will lead the cheer campers in a routine that will be performed at the post camp BBQ. Telvin's mission is to motivate local youth in all areas of their lives and emphasize the importance of hard work.

"I worked really hard to reach the NFL, and the hard work paid off because I'm living my dream," said Smith. "But, I also had the support of my family and community which was just as important. This is my way of giving back and laying a foundation for those who are coming behind me."

While at Lowndes, Smith played football and ran track. As a junior he helped his team win the state AAAAA championship. He went on to attend Florida State University where he was named first-team All-ACC. The Jaguars drafted Smith in the 2014 NFL Draft, and he has begun to collect accolades early in his professional career, twice earning AFC Defensive Player of the Week honors.
