People with scoliosis have an abnormal sideways curve in their spine that makes an "S" or "C" shape and will cause back pain and stiffness. Scoliosis is more common in females and begins in childhood.
An easy screening exam for scoliosis that every parent can perform on their children is called the Adam's Forward Bending Test. It requires the child to bend forward at the hips as if they are trying to touch their toes and if you notice a prominence or hump where one side of their back is higher or lower then the other side then that is a positive Adam's Test and scoliosis is present. If you get a positive test then you should take your child to a chiropractor that takes x-rays so we can see the severity of the problem.
