December 07, 2007 - Online greeting card firm Card4UM recently announced its plans to partner with certain non-profit and educational institutions.
According to company founder and chief executive, Virgil Magee, the firm will make donations based on the sale of its products and services.
"What we want to do is help those institutions whose mission is to help the community," Magee said. "We want to help those that care about defending battered women, we want to help those who help underprivileged families or teach children to read."
Under the program each participating institution would be assigned a specific code, which would be used by customers when making purchases. Once customers enter the code a portion of the total purchase would be donated to the charity.
"I believe we have a responsibility to help those who can't help themselves." Magee said. "We also have a responsibility to give something back, because not all of us are born into a world of privilege."
The program would be unlimited, meaning schools would still receive monies after the school year ends. The money received could be used with their general funds to purchase schools supplies and other materials.
Previous Card4UM donation recipients have included battered women’s shelters, rape crisis centers and colleges and universities.
Magee, a former Army non-commissioned officer and former commissioned Air Force officer, who served in Iraq and several other war zones, founded Card4UM in early 2007.
