New York, NY (1888PressRelease) October 24, 2009 - US President, Barack Obama, has named the new US Ambassador to Japan, lawyer John V. Roos, who enjoys the President’s enormous trust. Ambassador Roos previously worked as a Silicon Valley lawyer helping IT companies such as Google achieve market listings.

One of the first places the Ambassador chose to visit in Japan was Hiroshima, which suffered from the atomic bomb in 1945.

In Japan, the Ambassador will deal with the new government led by Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama who is calling for close and equal Japan - US partnership. His government is poised to end Japan’s refueling mission in the Indian Ocean in search for new ways to help reconstruct Afghanistan. A review of the US military presence in Japan is also being explored.

The Ambassador John Roos was featured in his first television interview in Japan and was asked how he plans to deal with bi-lateral relations that are now at a crucial turning point.

This documentary is one in a series entitled "Today's Close-Up" produced by NHK (Japan Broadcasting Corporation). It had its premier broadcast in Japan, October 13, 2009.
