  • (1888PressRelease) November 25, 2016 - The time has come once again to join together in Thanksgiving spirit, to spread good-will and give thanks. Staying true to their conviction that community is family, Interstate Container supports, for the fifth year, long-time partner, Mountaire Farms, in efforts to provide Thanksgiving meals to over 34,000 Delmarva residents and over 24,000 citizens in North Carolina.

Anne Potterton, Interstate Container Regional Sales Manager, expresses,

"We are proud and honored to support our partner Mountaire Farms in their efforts to serve those in need. What better use is there for our boxes than to provide a way to deliver food to people who may not be able enjoy Thanksgiving otherwise?"

Hundreds of volunteers, including employees from Mountaire and Interstate Container, came together in Selbyville, DE, Lumber Bridge, NC and Siler City, NC to pack 14,500 dinner boxes in time for the Thanksgiving holiday. These packed boxes will be distributed to food pantries, governmental agencies, churches, and shut-ins the week of Thanksgiving.

The dinner boxes contain all the necessary ingredients for a wholesome and delicious Thanksgiving dinner for up to five people, including a Mountaire roaster, corn, string beans, yams, stuffing mix, gravy, cranberry sauce and brownie mix.

Interstate Container plants in Cambridge, MD and Greeneville, TN worked closely, with suppliers Mark/Trece, Inc. and Stafford Cutting Dies, Inc. to produce and donate 21,000 corrugated boxes needed for this food drive and other Mountaire initiatives throughout the year.

Mountaire's Thanksgiving for Thousands program, launched 22 years ago, spreads community spirit, bringing together residents, organizations, and other contributors all along the Delmarva Peninsula. In more recent years, the program has expanded to Lumber Bridge and Siler City, NC where each year thousands are fed Thanksgiving meals.

Mountaire Farms & Interstate Container: A History of Innovative Partnership

Throughout almost a decade, Mountaire and Interstate Container have joined forces numerous times to benefit a wider community. In 2009, Interstate Container Cambridge collaborated with Mountaire Farms to develop and test the innovative Greencoat® wax-free boxes as an alternative to traditional, unrecyclable wax boxes. Since Mountaire Farm shifted entirely to Greencoat® in 2010, the poultry processor has witnessed a significant reduction in carbon footprint, as well as streamlined its supply chain. The FBA-certified, 100% recyclable, repulpable and compostable box can be used to pack poultry, meat, seafood, fresh produce, floral, and stone products.

In 2010, WMDT/Mountaire Farms awarded Interstate Container Cambridge the Environmental Star of the Month Award for outstanding achievement in promoting environmentalism on the Delmarva Peninsula. In 2014, Mountaire Farms recognized Interstate Container with the 'Coveted Supplier Appreciation Award'.
