June 09, 2008 - A new study by IDS portrays the picture of expenditure on Internet Advertising in the United States for 2008-2012.IDC is a global provider of market intelligence, advisory services and events for the information technology, telecommunications and consumer technology markets. Its findings reveal that the revenue generated by overall Internet Advertising will doubly rise to $51.1 billion in 2012 from $25.5 billion in 2007.
It is suggested that the current economic decline will only contribute towards channeling the ad expenditure to new marketing devices in place of the existing traditional ones. Internet Advertising is slated to grow eight times as fast as advertising in general. According to the report, the Internet as a medium is expected to rise to the number 2 medium from the present number 5. This would lead to making Internet, second to direct marketing, also meaning that,it will be considerably larger than newspapers, cable T.V and also broadcast T.V. Also, video advertising is being heralded as the next big thing in the advertising area.
Its revenue is expected to clock a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 49.4%. It would rise sevenfold from $0.5 billion in 2007 to $3.8 billion in 2012. The reason for this spectacular growth is cited as the future drift to Video Advertising from broadcast T.V and Cable T.V by the brand advertisers. What is also driving this trend is that consumers are starting to realize that, as opposed to TV, Internet video is giving them the freedom to watch what they want to watch, when do they want, and moreover, from where do they want it.
