  • (1888PressRelease) July 22, 2010 - Sydney Australia: The International Krav Maga Federation Headquarters has appointed a new Director for Australia and New Zealand, Mr Kurt Colpan, a dedicated and experienced Krav Maga student and instructor of Krav Maga and a disciple of Eyal Yanilov, Avi Moyal, Ze'ev Cohen, Gabi Noah, Amnon Darsa and other experts of Krav Maga.

This move initiated by Chairman of the International Krav Maga Federation Avi Moyal was made after the recent announcement of Eyal Yanilov's departure. Eyal is creating his own new organization called Krav Maga Global (KMG) moving away from the federation that he helped form.

The International Krav Maga Federation was formed in 1996 by founder Imi and top students Eyal Yanilov, Avi Moyal, Gabi Noah and Eli Ben-Ami. In the next 15 years the International Krav Maga Federation has become the most successfully established and well known Krav Maga organization in the world.

According to Kurt Colpan this will not change and the International Krav Maga Federation will continue to operate and spread Krav Maga throughout the world. In a letter sent on June 25th this year to all International Krav Maga Federation Instructors, Kurt says:

'As it stands, the IKMF is very much an active organization in the world of Krav Maga and is continuing to move forward. Contrary to what has been disseminated by others, it is not an obsolete or outdated model, it is simply not a profit orientated model and it is not going to disappear due to Eyal leaving the organization'.

'My intention as the new Director is to get people to communicate and express themselves in an open environment where team work, organizational ideals and ethics are clearly present'.

'I believe my passion for Krav Maga will allow me to drive the IKMF in Australia making it one of the most professional Krav Maga Federations in Australia.'

    Kurt goes on to say:

'Imi had a dream and that was to spread Krav Maga on a global level, irrespective of organization, race, or religion. The goal was clear, 'so that one may walk in peace'. That is our mission, to spread Imi's dream to the world, in particular Australia'.

'The IKMF is an industry body. It can be compared to the heart foundation's 'Tick of Approval'. We are not a controlling body, but rather a Quality Assurance body, formed in the roots of wanting to spread quality Krav Maga to the world in the best way possible. We (the IKMF) have been extremely successful with this over the years. Eyal, Avi, Gabi, Eli and many others (other organizations also) have contributed to Krav Maga being spread throughout the world'.

What is certain is that there are some interesting times are ahead in one of the biggest changes in Krav Maga history we have seen for sometime.
