Detroit, MI (1888PressRelease)
March 20, 2009 - Former Siena Heights University basketball player DeMarcus Berry received a verbal offer from the International Basketball League's Holland Blast to play in on this year's 2009 team.
Berry, a 6'4" Guard who was extended an invitation to work out for the team last week in front of Blast Head Coach Duane Bosma and other team Managers, was officially given the news by his agent, Nate McCray of Dynasty Sports Management.
The rookie, a Detroit, Michigan native, also attended an earlier tryout with the National Basketball Developmental League's Erie Bayhawks in Akron, Ohio back in November of 2008 before attending the Blast workout.
Berry averaged 15 points per game and 5 rebounds per game during his senior year with Siena Heights University and has been seeking an opportunity like this for some time. "DeMarcus has worked really hard for this and I'm glad to see this come full circle for him", stated Berry's agent Nate McCray. "He's a hungry kid and he's learned to be patient and let his hard work and dedication pay off for him", relayed McCray.
The Holland Blast finished their 2008 season with a record of 11-9 and are looking to improve that mark dramatically. They will look for Berry to earn a starting spot at the Point Guard position and lead their team to many victories this season.
Nate McCray advised that he's had numerous conversations with Coach Bosma over the past few days to discuss his plans on how DeMarcus will be used this season. McCray also stated that the Blast Head Coach is very optimistic on how Berry will perform.
"Coach Bosma like's the drive, leadership and presence that DeMarcus will bring to the table", says McCray.
The Holland Blast will start their season on April 3rd in a contest against the Grand Rapids Flight.
