Inter school theatre festival at The British School, New Delhi
The British School hosted its interschool theatre festival "Fluid Borders".
- (1888PressRelease) April 23, 2012 - It was a daylong celebration of creativity where eight leading schools of Delhi participated - Spring Dales, Dhaula Kuan , The Air Force School Subroto Park and Blue Bells International to name a few.
The purpose of this annual festival is to provide a platform on which young people can express themselves through the medium of theatre. Each school entered a team of students who worked with the stimulus title 'Who decides' This was an incredibly open title and it was really up to the individual groups as to how they interpreted and explored it. The participating teams were expected to devise original, short plays based on the theme. The process was a really important aspect of the festival as the pieces were written, devised and produced by the students of Grades 9 to11. Each group had clearly put in a great deal of thought to their piece from the use of music to the design of costume and set. They touched upon a range of issues from global warming to euthanasia and the right to live versus the right to die. It was a proud moment to see all of the schools come together and share their work.
The grace with which these young actors and directors performed their pieces was astounding. A well informed jury committee comprising of professionals from the field of theatre, dance and cinema gave extensive feedback to each participating team highlighting their areas of strength and the areas that needed more focused work. The participants too critiqued each other's work in a very friendly and helpful manner.
At the end of the festival, the high point was the beautiful camaraderie and artistic unity that the students carried back home with them . All in all, it was a wonderful way to expose students to a range of different performance pieces and each student took away with them a different journey from the festival.
