Industry, Commerce And Tourism Ministries In Joint Effort To Boost Trade And Investment Between Thailand And China

Thailand’s Industry Ministry, in cooperation with public and private organizations in Thailand and China, will organize a seminar to promote investment, trade and tourism opportunities between Thailand and China. More than 300 leading Chinese business people from around the world will be invited to meet with Thai companies.

(1888PressRelease) May 29, 2009 - Industry Minister Chanchai Chairungruang said after a meeting between members of Thai-Chinese Chamber of Commerce, Thai-Chinese Culture and Economy Association, Thailand Board of Investment (BoI) and the Office of Small and Medium Enterprises Promotion (OSMEP), that the Industry, Commerce and Tourism ministries will hold a trade and investment seminar from July 26-28, 2009. The event, expected to attract more than 300 Chinese business operators worldwide, is aimed at building business linkages and opening trade and investment opportunities between Thailand and China.

“The opening of BOI office in Beijing on 2 April, coupled with an investment seminar and a business match making session, will attract a lot of Chinese businessmen. The World Eminence Chinese Business Association has thus decided to hold its 2009 annual seminar in Thailand to generate more bilateral co-operation in investment, trade and tourism”, Industry Minister said.

The seminar is supported by various Chinese government and private sector organizations, including the Thai-Chinese Chamber of Commerce, Thai-Chinese Culture and Economy Association, the World Eminence Chinese Business Association, the Association of Chinese Ex-diplomats, the United Nations Industrial Developments Organization (UNIDO) and the Chinese Tourism Board.

It is expected that 300 Chinese business people, 150 from mainland China, 50 from Hong Kong and Macau, and the remaining 150 from other countries worldwide, will participate in the seminar.

Key highlights of the event include a seminar on trade and investment opportunities as well as business match-making and networking. The seminar will focus on Thailand’s potential, the government’s investment promotion policy and success stories of Chinese investors in Thailand.

For the business match-making activity, the Industry Minister has assigned the BoI to work with the OSMEP in selecting 300 high potential Thai business operators from various industries to meet and discuss business opportunities with Chinese business leaders who will attend the seminar.

To brighten up the event, a wedding ceremony demonstration will be organized before a real “wedding” is held between Thai and Chinese businesses on July 31, 2009. “We expect to bring 10,000 Chinese couples to Thailand to have their wedding ceremony here by the end of this year. This activity will certainly enhance the tourism sector.” Mr. Pinit Jarusombat, Vice President of Thai-Chinese Culture and Economy Association said.
