February 06, 2009 - Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) - New Delhi, the central agency to promote Thailand, has launched its India-centric website – www.amazingthailand.co.in. The website aims to create awareness about tourist destinations in Thailand and targets primarily first time tourists from India.
The website has been conceptualized and developed by Indigo Consulting, one of the leading interactive marketing firms in the country.
“Looking at the number of Indians who use internet to plan their holidays or look for tourist related information, it was imperative for us to have a significant presence in the internet. We want to have a focused approach for the Indian market,” says Mr. Chattan Ayudhya, head of TAT in India. The importance of India could be underlined by the fact that close to a million Indian tourists travel to Thailand every year. This number is going to increase sharply in the next few years. Adds Mr Ayudhya, “Thailand offers much more than Bangkok and Phuket – the most popular tourist destinations amongst Indians. The website will help popularize other tourist destinations as well in the country.”
The website is built around the theme of ‘Amazing Thailand’. It provides all relevant information that an Indian tourist planning a visit to Thailand requires. From discovering exciting destinations, places to stay, things to do, weather reports, to events and a comprehensive traveler’s guide, the website covers it all. Says Anurag Bhagat, Business Director, Indigo Consulting, “The website will be developed in phases. The current phase focuses mainly on educating an Indian tourist about Thailand. The Phase II of the website would be launched soon and will include features such as planners, bookings and far greater degree of interactive elements and community features.”
The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) was set up with the responsibility of promoting Thailand as a tourist destination. The organization supplies information and data on tourist areas to the public, publicizes Thailand with the intention of encouraging both Thai and international tourists to travel to Thailand. TAT started its New Delhi office in 2002.
