September 25, 2006 - Indian Minority Forum Condemns Modi
Indian Minority Forum has condemned Mr. Narendra Modi, the Chief Minister of Gujarat for proposing and passing the amendment to the so called religious freedom bill restricting religious freedom and clubbing Jainism and Buddhism with Hinduism.
Professor Pradeep Phaltane, the President of Pune based Indian Minority Forum today blamed Modi in a meeting of Jain activists. He appealed that all religious minorities in India should unite to fight against RSS and BJP’s agenda of changing the secular form of the Indian Constitution and seizing the fundamental rights of citizens of India.
Professor Phaltane also demanded that the article 25 of the Indian constitution should be changed as it is misinterpreted by Hindutwavadis and it forces Hindu Law on Jains, Buddhists and Sikhs. It should be noted that Jains, Buddhists and Sikhs have their own traditional personal laws which unfortunately were not considered while writing the Indian constitution.
He added that Jains, Buddhists and Sikhs are mere 2% in Indian population. In spite of this why the Hindutwawadis are clubbing them with Hindus? Instead, they should think on why Dalits, who are originally Hindus and 15% in population; are leaving Hinduism in masses. He suggested that if Hindutwawadis had embraced Dalits with love and affection, treated them as human beings, they would not have converted to other religions. It is funny that Hindutwawadis keep away to Dalits and if they become Jains or Buddhists they like to embrace them!
