- (1888PressRelease) April 16, 2012 - Ardmore, PA - Shelby Neely, VMD, the face behind the award-winning cat health website, AskTheCatDoctor.com, is placing a special emphasis on raising awareness of the prevalence of animal abuse in an attempt to help prevent animal cruelty. In her recent blog post regarding Prevention of Animal Cruelty Month, Dr. Neely wrote:
"Since April is Prevention of Animal Cruelty Month, I wanted to point out some of the animal cruelty facts and some of these animal abuse stories even though I can't stand learning about them, thinking about them, and talking about them. I guess we can't hide our heads and pretend this craziness doesn't exist if we want to do something about it."
Dr. Neely reports on a number of animal abuse stories that have been presented in the media just during the last week, identifying over 10 different, high-profile cases in different states and in countries around the world. These cases are horrendous and quite extreme, but then there are also the stories of animal neglect and generally cruelty that veterinarians face every day.
Dr. Neely would like you, not just during the month of April, to think about the number of animals out there being abused, neglected, or outright tortured. Prevention of Animal Cruelty Month is about raising awareness. "We need to find answers to the questions: What can we do to stop animal abuse? How can we better protect the precious animals in our world? What kind of legal penalties should there be for this kind of behavior? Will stiffer laws on animal abuse deter a good amount of this behavior? Is there anything else we can do in addition to fighting for stricter laws on animal cruelty?"
