March 27, 2006 - The translation of IM Publishing’s title: Hawaiian Lomilomi Massage into German is complete,and sales have started in Germany. Lomi-lomi, an ancient form of therapeutic Polynesian bodywork, has become very popular in Europe, Australia, and Japan, and is offered in spas around the world.
The story behind the translation is an interesting one. The author, Nancy Kahalewai, utilized the skills of one her students, Simone Kalla, who has a background in technical editing and had come from Germany to study lomilomi in Hawaii. The translation reflects Ms. Kalla’s extensive training and appreciation of Hawaiian culture.
This second edition is the most comprehensive book in print today, and having it translated into German brings this accurate information to the European community. There exists a good deal of misinformation about lomi-lomi and Hawaiian culture outside of Hawaii, and the Hawaii-based author and publishing company bring a much-needed authentic perspective to readers.
Kahalewai has decades of experience in massage career training for state licensure in Hawaii, and co-directing massage teams for major sporting events like the Ironman World Championship Triathlon in Kona, Hawaii. She wrote Hawaiian Lomilomi: Big Island Massage, which was first published in 2000 and extensively updated in 2005 for the US, Japan, and German markets. The book explores the traditional methods and cultural practitioners of true Hawaiian lomi, and compares this to some of the misconceptions found in modern interpretive teachings so popular today.
