Tourism is an increasingly widespread and complex activity, which requires sophisticated management to realize its full potential as a positive and sustainable economic, environmental, social and cultural force. The economic impact of tourism places tourism roughly at the same global order of magnitude as agriculture or mining.
According to World Tourism and Travel Council (WTTC) (www.wttc.org), the major organization representing the global tourism industry, 215 million jobs were dependent on the ‘Tourism economy’ in 2004. As tourism has become an integral part of modern society, its study and analysis becomes imperative if its potential economic and social benefits are to be maximized and developed in a manner consistent with society’s goals.
