(1888PressRelease)
September 27, 2006 - When you first see the IAMM NTD36HD you just can't wait to get the hard drive in and fire it up!
The casing is a stylish white plastic with control features on the top and front of the unit and an abundance of digital video and audio outputs at the back which we will get to shortly....
The IAMM allows you the choice of hard drive to suit your needs which makes it flexible in terms of price. Furthermore the type of hard drive is IDE which means that you can get a pretty huge drive for reasonable cost!
The loading of the hard drive is very simple and needs no tools or Handy Andy....just slide and open the compartment at the base of the IAMM to reveal the drive bay. Slide out the drive locking key and pop in your drive. Connect the power and IDE cable, slide the drive locking key back in to secure, close the compartment and you're done!
Looking to the rear of the IAMM will reveal the scope of support for Video and Audio and Communication. There is standard Composite Video, S-Video, Progressive Scan and DVI output. For Audio you have standard Audio 2 Channel, Digital Optical, Digital Coaxial and 5.1 Channel Audio Support so you can plug it into your surround sound system with ease.
As for communications, there is a USB port for loading files and hosting, plus an Ethernet port so the IAMM can sit on your network for file sharing and easy access. Finally, if that wasn't enough, a wireless access is available to let you stream your movies from wherever you are in your house or office!
In terms of performance, the IAMM core is a Sigma Design Chipset - 8621 which supports up to 1920 x 1080 progressive scan and so you can playback HD programs easily from your set top box or hard disk recorder.
The latest video formats are supported....pre recorded HD file (tp, ts), WMV9, WMV9 HD, MPEG1/2, MPG, MPEG4(DivX, Xvid)....
ISO and IFO formats are also supported which means that you can store your favourite DVDs in the IAMM and hide the DVDs away so that nobody can borrow them and not return them (how annoying is that....or even worse when you only get an empty case back...!!)
So...switching on the IAMM...you get a pleasant surprise as although it contains a fan, it doesn't sound like a Dyson and is surprisingly quiet. A flash of LEDs up and down the front panel let you know that power up is ok and your default options are lit. This is really handy as you don't need to keep grabbing the remote and digging into the setup, TV and Audio selections can be made by virtue of the 2 buttons on the front of the IAMM.
It's a similar story for the buttons on the top as they can be used to select and play media in case you've had a row over how there are too many remotes now and they've all been confiscated and hidden away...!!
As for the remote, it is a nice sturdy and comprehensive one. Setup and navigation is very easy once connected to the TV and you can easily be watching your favourite movie or listening to your favourite albums in no time.
