March 18, 2009 - Looking out at grey skies is enough to wake the inner traveller in most people. For travellers who dream of exotic spices, a sunny climate, diverse culture and exploring a country steeped in history, their dreams can come true with unique volunteering experiences abroad.
Often hailed as one of India’s most famous travel destinations Goa has a lot to offer travellers looking for a different and even life changing experience. Its heady mixture of Portuguese and Indian culture makes travel an unpredictable and fascinating experience. Beaches such as Anjuna are known for their scenic beauty but they aren’t the only sights worth seeing; lesser travelled areas such as Panaji have a much more traditional feel and the cathedrals and basilicas of old Goa are a truly stunning example of the mixture of Indian and Spanish architecture.
i-to-i have just launched three brand new projects in this amazing location that allow travellers to really get under the skin of Goan culture. The first of which provides a chance to spend up to 8 weeks making a real difference to the community and helping underprivileged children in Goa. Travellers will have the perfect opportunity to absorb the laid back Goan lifestyle staying in the village of Saligaon, and exploring the surrounding area far away from the tourists trail. They’ll need to save some energy too, as they will be bringing their own sunshine to the lives of street children with singing, dancing, sports, games and much more!
Travellers passionate about making a real impact will definitely find what they are looking for helping children with special needs in Goa. The project offers the chance to work closely with children and enrich their lives with fun activities such as drawing, arts and crafts and lots of outside sports under blue skies. The maximum stay of 12 weeks also means that travellers will be able to see just how much difference they’ve made, as well as a lot more of the beautiful Goan sights. Travellers can head off for some adventure in Goa’s lively cities or take a trip by train on India’s famous railway, if they can find a space!
Travellers looking to improve their language skills and even their CVs might be interested in spending up to 12 weeks teaching in a kindergarten and orphanage in Goa. This new project allows travellers to broaden their range of teaching skills working with both younger and older children; they can get involved with fun and games in the kindergarten and a little more study in the orphanage. Travellers can really become part of it all and use their own skills to muck in with extra hobby and language classes or lend a hand with general first aid and making sure the children have a balanced diet.
The fantastic new trips in Goa give travellers the chance to get off the beaten track and become part of the community, and with an added 12% off all trips in March there’s never been a better time to make the most of travelling for less!
