Human Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Antigen Now Available To Researchers From Lee Biosolutions

Protein that blocks the destructive effects of some enzymes available at LeeBio.com

(1888PressRelease) April 18, 2007 - Lee Biosolutions announces the availability of Alpha-1 antitrypsin (AAT or A1AT) Antigen to clinical researchers worldwide at leebio.com. Alpha-1 antitrypsin is a protein produced in the liver that blocks the destructive effects of certain enzymes.

An alpha-1 antitrypsin concentration test is used as a tool to help diagnose the cause of early onset emphysema, especially when a person does not present obvious risk factors, like smoking or exposure to lung irritants such as dust and fumes. Alpha-1 antitrypsin tests are also implemented in diagnosing the cause of persistent jaundice and liver dysfunction indicators, primarily in young children.

According to Lee Biosolutions President Burton Lee, the company continues to introduce new products on a regular basis in order to stay ahead of the demands of the clinical research community.

“Production of proteins like alpha-1 antitrypsin is the result of a research trend that suggested researchers were using it at an increasing rate for a variety of studies, and were demanding sources for pure and consistent product in runs compatible with their individual needs,” Lee said.

If a patient’s alpha-1 antitrypsin concentration is below normal, alpha-1 antitrypsin phenotype testing may be ordered. That testing is sometimes followed by DNA testing to establish which Pi gene alleles are present.

Lee Biosolutions also offers affinity purified polyclonal antibodies of anti-human alpha-1 antitrypsin including goat anti-human alpha1 antitrypsin and chicken anti-human alpha-1 antitrypsin.

Lee Biosolutions is a leader in the biomarker industry, providing the quality products to clinical labs and researchers around the world, developing tomorrow’s cures. The company has provided the materials used in a number of high profile biomarker studies.
