June 18, 2007 - Hollywood insiders are reaching out to independent filmmakers and screenwriters by serving on the 2007 Boston Motion Picture Awards’ panel of judges. The top ten finalists from both the BMPA International Short-Film Competition and International Spoof-Writing Competition will have their work judged by a panel of industry experts, which includes the following Hollywood insiders:
Stephen Root (actor: Dodgeball, Office Space, King of the Hill, From the Earth to the Moon); Keiko Agena (actress: Gilmore Girls, Kim Possible); Sayed Badreya (actor: The Insider, Shallow Hal; filmmaker: AmericanEast, Saving Egyptian Film Classics); Jane Bussmann (writer: South Park, So Graham Norton); Cirroc Lofton (actor: Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, The Hoop Life); Siu Ta (actress: Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle, This Is Wonderland; filmmaker: Kata Practice); Ty Burr (author: Entertainment Weekly; critic: The Boston Globe); Toddy Walters (actress/musician: South Park; actress: South Park: Bigger Longer & Uncut)
Entrants can submit their films and screenplays to the BMPAs until September 15th. The judges will then view and read the Finalists’ work during October, and the winners will be announced in mid-November.
The Boston Motion Picture Awards were founded in 2004 by Boston-area filmmakers Aaron and Seth Howland of 7 Fluid Oz. Productions LLP. The BMPAs were established with the purpose of providing independent filmmakers with money, exposure, distribution, and other important resources. This year’s entrants will compete for 1,000s of dollars in cash and prizes, including a distribution contract and the opportunity to have a script produced.
