April 23, 2007 - Didn’t make it to the Oscars? Missed the Grammy and Emmy Awards? Don’t worry! The famed Imperial Palace Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas gives audiences a chance to get up close and personal with the entertainment industry’s biggest “stars” as it hosts the 16th annual The Reel Awards™.
This one-of-a-kind live tribute and awards show honors the world’s top impersonators, tribute artists and celebrity look-alikes in a memorable evening of music, comedy, dance and awards presentations. The Reel Awards™, making its first Las Vegas appearance after 15 successful years in Hollywood, takes place on Sunday, May 27th with the exciting Red Carpet cavalcade of stars beginning at 6:30 p.m. and the show slated to kick-off at 7:30 p.m.
Conceived in 1989 by pioneers in the industry of celebrity impersonators, Janna Joos of International Celebrity Images and Alana Joos of Entertainment Express, The Reel Awards™ recognizes the talents and achievements of outstanding individuals or groups who perform in the field of impersonation with a unique award show production. The gala is considered the world’s largest gathering of performers from the multi-million dollar celebrity impersonation and look-alike industry.
“The Reel Awards™ is our industry’s salute to the hard work and talent necessary to succeed as a tribute artist,” says Janna Joos, co-founder and producer of the long-running event. “The skill of the performers is truly amazing and audiences quickly forget they are watching an impersonator.” Adds Alana Joos, co-founder and director of this year’s production, “Where else can you find Richard Gere, Alice Cooper and Austin Powers being interviewed by Joan Rivers while Jack Nicholson and George W. Bush sip cocktails with Cher and Dolly Parton?”
After many successful years of holding The Reel Awards™ in Hollywood, most recently at the famed Roosevelt Hotel, the producers determined it was time to bring the show to the city known the world over as the leading provider of top impersonator and tribute acts.
“As the event continued to grow in popularity it was a logical move for us to bring it to Las Vegas, the “home” of celebrity impersonators,” says Janna Joos adding, “We’re thrilled to be working with the Imperial Palace which houses what is considered the premiere celebrity impersonator show in the world, “Legends in Concert.”
Hosted by Dee Dee Hanson as “Joan Rivers” and Bettina Williams as “Whoopi Goldberg,” seventeen awards as voted on by industry members will be presented at this year’s event including such categories as “Best Actor and Actress,” “Best Television Performance” and the “Rising Star Award.” A “Lifetime Achievement Award” will be presented posthumously to Jay Koch who as Ronald Reagan played the former president in films, Reagan Library functions and in hundreds of personal appearances since the 1980’s.
The Reel Awards™ will be held in the home of the renowned impersonator show “Legends in Concert,” at the famed Imperial Theatre Showroom in the Imperial Palace and Casino, 3535 Las Vegas Boulevard South in Las Vegas. The event is open to the public to enjoy photo-ops with their favorite faux celebrities and see live performances from many of the top impersonators in the world.
