Holdsworth is known for his highly original works that explore different methods of creation within the process of painting. The theoretical basis of the works is linked to art history, philosophy, the form and content of art and an engagement with the material quality of the medium.
Alongside the theoretical, his subject matter includes not only a vast repository of data drawn directly from observation and photography but also from the media and the Internet.
