  • Santa Rosa, CA (1888PressRelease) September 17, 2010 - Honored for the Largest Business and Infrastructure Transformation in Company History.

Hitachi Data Systems Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of Hitachi, Ltd. (NYSE: HIT), today announced that it made this year's InformationWeek 500, an annual listing of the nation's most innovative users of business technology. By developing globally standardized business operating processes, Hitachi Data Systems (HDS) was able to increase its already high level of functionality and efficiency, to better deliver world class storage solutions to its customers. The 2010 list was revealed last night at a gala awards ceremony at the exclusive InformationWeek 500 Conference taking place at the St. Regis Monarch Beach Resort in Dana Point, CA.

"At Hitachi Data Systems, we are on a constant mission to lower IT and business costs and improve business intelligence and operations to provide the best customer experience possible," said Rex Carter, chief information officer, Hitachi Data Systems. "We continuously evaluate what we as a company can do to achieve this goal by providing enhanced support and further developing technology and partnerships. This award validates all the hard work that has gone into creating an optimized customer experience."

In 2009, HDS embarked on one of the company's largest business and infrastructure transformations to better deliver its world class storage solutions to customers. Essential to the success of the transformation was the alignment of HDS business requirements with its IT infrastructure, which called for joint management by the company's executives in IT and global operations to handle IT delivery and business requirements respectively. This joint management team ensured complete support of the program's goals and objectives, a critical step given that the transformation required the involvement of every function and division within the global company.

In creating a globally supported and aligned environment, HDS not only expanded its internal support team and served its customers more efficiently, but the company also fundamentally changed the way it does business by focusing on global, standardized and simplified business processes. With increased efficiency and collaboration across the company, Hitachi Data Systems improved customer relationship management and streamlined back office business systems and processes to optimize efficiency and business value.

"For 22 years, the InformationWeek 500 has honored the most innovative users of business technology," said Rob Preston, editor in chief, InformationWeek. "As we start to emerge from the worst recession in decades, the IT focus is now on driving growth - new sources of revenue, new relationships with customers, even new business models. This year's ranking placed special emphasis on those companies and business technology executives leading that charge."

InformationWeek identifies and honors the nation's most innovative users of information technology with its annual 500 listing and also tracks the technology, strategies, investments and administrative practices of America's best-known companies. The InformationWeek 500 rankings are unique among corporate rankings as it spotlights the power of innovation in information technology, rather than simply identifying the biggest IT spenders.
