February 22, 2007 - San Antonio, TX -- February 17, 2007 -- On a day where your driver on the par-4 #1 hole might have you fly the green and the same club on the par-3 #15 hole might not make it, the South Texas winds proved to be the equalizer in the first event of the 2007 season for the Callaway Golf Galaxy Tour - San Antonio.
The format, a 2-person best ball, recorded team scores from 73 to 92. The new post-round flighting formula, developed and maintained by the Tours' National Office, provided for placement payouts to 50-percent of the field.
According to Devin Reid, V.P. of Tour Operations, "This new approach truly offers each team the opportunity to take home prize money." In previous years, the payout was to the top 30-percent of the field. Kevin Unterreiner, National Tour Director of the Callaway Golf Galaxy Tours stated "With this new payout, EVERY team will have a chance to win in EVERY tournament because we will be doing post round flighting. This should create alot of excitement and put an end to the common feedback from players of "I'm not that great. I don't have a chance to win. The same guys win everytime."
This recent tournament is certainly evidence of that, where the team best-ball scores of 73, 79, and 88 placed first in each of 3 flights. The typical structure for flight division is every 10 teams, and the prize money payouts grow as the number of teams playing increases.
