May 19, 2008 - Not too long ago, a diagnosis of a herniated disc meant a couple of rounds of epidural injections and an eventual turn under the surgeons knife. But a new technology is giving hope to herniated disc sufferers and is making patients think twice about those invasive and often ineffective treatments.
The technology is called Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression (NSSD) and is being utilized by some doctors to safely and effectively bring relief to patients with herniated or bulging discs.
Dr. Steven Reizer, DC has been using the technology successfully in his clinic in Boiling Springs, South Carolina. Dr. Reizer uses two spinal decompression systems in his clinic -- one for lumbar disc disorders called the DRX9000 and another for cervical disc disorders called the DRX9500. The systems are manufactured by Axiom Worldwide, a medical equipment manufacturer in Tampa, Florida.
According to Dr. Reizer, "patients should definitely pursue this non-invasive line of treatment first. In most cases, if the patient is qualified for treatment, there is no need for further invasive treatments."
Conditions that will respond to NSSD are bulging discs, herniated discs, spinal stenosis, facet syndromes, sciatica, and some failed surgeries.
