Health and Wellness Fair Bringing Light to Child Abuse Issue

Local non-profit seeks to bring light to the issue of child abuse through informing community of important available resources.

San Jose, CA (1888PressRelease) November 13, 2008 - In 2000, the Women’s World Summit Foundation launched the World Day for Prevention of Child Abuse, which is commemorated every November 19th. The objective of this day is to bring to light the issue of child abuse and the need for effective prevention programs.

Child Abduction is Child Abuse, so this year the Vanished Children's Alliance (VCA) will team up with the Eastridge Mall of San Jose, CA to honor this special day locally by putting on a health and wellness fair on Saturday, November 15, 2008 from 12:00pm - 4:00pm at the mall’s center court. The purpose of the event, aside from drawing attention to the issue of Child Abuse, is to allow multiple agencies who serve children and their families in the community to showcase the important and valuable services they offer free of charge. Joining VCA in this effort will be 12 other local agencies such as the Bill Wilson Center, YWCA Rape Crisis Center, the Victim Witness Support Center and the Support Network for Battered Women, just to name a few. Along with a wealth of information on available resources, there will be: safety demonstrations, free child fingerprinting and a free prize drawing.

The task of increasing awareness of the issue of Child Abuse and identifying and informing the public about the valuable resources available to the families of our community go hand-in-hand. Please join us on Saturday, November 15th and be a part of this important event.

ABOUT VCA - Incorporated in 1981 VCA is a nonprofit 501 ( c ) (3) organization based in San Jose. VCA provides nationwide assistance to families of missing and abducted children. Visit www.vca.org for further information.
