May 14, 2009 - NEW YORK - HBO Sports was the recipient of eight Sports Emmy Awards this past April. Triple honors went to its ground-breaking boxing series "24/7," with two going to "Calzaghe/Jones 24/7" and one to "Pacquiao/De La Hoya 24/7." The Outstanding Sports Documentary Emmy went to "Breaking The Huddle: The Integration of College Football."
The magazine show "RealSports with Bryant Gumbel," now in its 14th year, won an Emmy for Outstanding Sports Journalism for the story "Horse Slaughter: Running For Their Lives."
Footage from these award-winning productions, which originate in High Definition, is available for immediate licensing through HBO Archives. The announcement was made by Rick Bernstein, Senior Vice-President, HBO Sports.
New footage from HBO Sports productions is added daily to the Archives' library. HBO Sports producers have recently returned with High Definition footage from Belgrade, Rome, The Philippines and South Africa.
Bernstein adds: "Sports is producing all of our programs with high-definition elements. We plan to make these images available, and eventually HBO materials from all divisions, to outside productions."
The non-sports collection holds thousands of hours of footage, including establishing shots, landmarks, lifestyles, nature, pop culture and newsreel footage spanning from the turn of the century to the 1960's.
