June 02, 2009 - Richmond, VA - Hawkeye Manufacturing, Inc today announced its acceptance into the Virginia Leaders in Export Trade (VALET) Program. The program, launched in January 2002 by the Virginia Economic Development Partnership (VEDP), assists exporters in the Commonwealth who have firmly established domestic operations and who are committed to international exporting as an expansion strategy. The first of its kind in the United States, VALET provides capital, expert guidance and concrete solutions for businesses committed to expanding into international markets.
“International sales contribute significantly to the success of Hawkeye Spas Manufacturing,” said Hawkeye Manufacturing Inc.’s President, David Shoaf. “Participation in the VALET Program will accelerate our plans to penetrate international markets. This program provides valuable services, capital, and the opportunity to leverage VEDP-developed relationships around the world, helping us to support our current international customers and attract new international business. Few government-sponsored programs can offer such an immediate opportunity for a win-win between the public and private sector.”
“The VALET Program accelerates the development of international business by connecting companies with the practical tools needed for successful export sales,” said Kimberly Weir, VALET Program Manager. “VEDP looks forward to supporting Hawkeye as the company implements its international business strategy.”
Hawkeye Manufacturing, Inc, based in Richmond since its inception in 1990, is a builder of high-quality hot tubs designed for bulk distribution across the globe. The company’s two product lines, Hawkeye Spas and Barefoot Spas, have since become some of the most recognizable and best-selling spas in the industry. Hawkeye Manufacturing offers its products for both consumer and commercial purposes, while also providing independent label opportunities for select clients.
The VALET program was recognized as a national model in November 2004 by the National Council for Public-Private Partnerships (NCPPP) for VALET’s innovation in bringing the public and private sectors together to achieve a benefit for the public. The VALET program was the only winner of the 2004 NCPPP Public-Private Partnership Award in the Innovation category.
The Virginia Economic Development Partnership, a marketing organization, was created by the Virginia General Assembly in 1995 to encourage, stimulate, and support the development and expansion of the economy of the Commonwealth. To accomplish its objectives of promoting economic expansion within the Commonwealth, the Partnership focuses its efforts on business recruitment, expansion and international trade.
