Gulder 5-A-side Football: Regional Matches Begins in Ilorin

  • (1888PressRelease) July 16, 2011 - As registration for participation in this year edition of the Gulder Ultimate 5-A-side Football competition ended, real actions in the fame and fortune opportunity giving soccer tournament will kick off as from Tuesday, July 19 to Thursday July 21, in Ilorin, Kwara state.

    All the regional football matches, where two teams must emerge from each of the regions, will be played between July 19 and August 22 across seven states this year. For this purpose, the nation has been delineated into seven regions. Starting with the Northern region where the city of Ilorin and Markurdi, which replaced Kaduna and Abuja as earlier announced, will host participants from the region.

    On July 19, all the teams that have been successfully registered from the North will gather at Kwara Football Academy, situated within the Kwara State Stadium Complex, off Ibrahim Taiwo Road, Ilorin. Registration and screening will start from morning while qualifying matches will kick off immediately to test skills, strength and football artistry. This will last in each of the region for three days and at the end, two outstanding teams will qualify for final showdown in Lagos where 14 finalists will slug it out for placement in the final six which will be followed by Roundrobbin session.

    Every team that has successfully registered online should come to the match venue early in the morning with the following items: One copy of the Online Print- Out of the returned email or the acknowledgement mail after registration; 40 uncrushed cans of the ultimate beer, Gulder; A passport photograph of each member of the team and a medical clearance from a government hospital, showing that a participant is fit to play.

    The Liberation Stadium Practice Pitch, Port Harcourt would serve as venue for teams in the South- South and the matches will be played between July 27 and 29. Eastern teams will converge at the Rangers International Football Club Training Pitch, Enugu on August 2nd to 4th. The Warri Township/ City Stadium will be the battle ground for teams in the Mid- Western region and that will be coming up on August 10 to 12, while as from August 16 to 18, Ijebu-Ode stadium will host teams in the Western Zone. To round off the regional football qualifying series, the New Gymnasium of the National Institute for Sports (NIS), located inside the National Stadium, Lagos will be the battle ground for teams in the Lagos region and that will be coming up on between August 20 and 22.

    Apart from the limelight that outstanding players in the competition can get which can lead to recognition in the national teams, the sponsoring brand, Gulder is poised to lavish N8 million prize money on the last three finalists. A team that comes first will go home with a whopping N5 million, second best team will get N2 million while the third overall winner will pocket N1 million. They will also go home with their kits which will be supplied by the sponsoring brand, Gulder.
