April 12, 2007 - How long does it take to get the grant application funded? (From writing to funding)
Normally it usually takes around three (3) to a maximum of six (6) months to develop one grant project. But it greatly depends on the availability of information we need to substantiate your proposal. For the funders, typically it takes thirty (30) to sixty (60) days. But some of them can take as fast as two (2) weeks to totally review your project, while some can take up to a maximum time of six (6) months. Different funding organizations do follow their own procedures and systems in giving out the funding. Client and not just funding institutions plays a vital part in speeding up the process for they are expected to provide all relevant and necessary information to expedite project.
Why does writing a grant proposal can take as much as six (6) months?
Writing a grant proposal is indeed a complex process. It is not something that can be done in just one (1) month. The first month is solely focused on feasibility study. Lots of amateur grant writing companies just write proposal and submit it to number of funding institutions and hope that one of them may fund such proposed project. What We strongly believe that it is not the right way to secure funding. What we do here is to find only one to two foundations and write grant proposal specifically for them.
We carefully analyze each foundation as to the individuals or organizations they already been funded, why they were funded, what projects they specifically fund, how much they can fund, the specific requirements that funders usually require, and etc. Such study is done to know if proposed project fits a particular funding institutions scope and limitation. This also helps in identifying possible outcome or expected result on each grant application. After which, the rest of the month(s) is focused on the actual developing processes and researches. Some things that are included in the grant proposal are the cost analysis, a five (5) year project plan, detailed list of activities and actions needed to carry the project, and many more.
Grant proposal is somewhat similar to a business plan, they only differ on the purpose it was written. Business plan shows how feasible a project was, while grant proposal try to prove and convince that a certain project should be funded to address a particular need. Proving stand and persuading funders is not that easy, you’ll need to clearly present all ideas and details in an effective, interesting, and factual manner. A If proposal is not written in an interesting and factual manner then maybe grantors will just skip your application.
