Los Angeles-Long Beach, CA (1888PressRelease)
October 02, 2009 - greenscreen®, a Los Angeles-based green wall manufacturer, will speak at the CitiesAlive International Green Roof Infrastructure Congress in Toronto, Canada, October 19–21, 2009, at the Sheraton Centre.
With more than 60 speakers slated to present, CitiesAlive will focus on global best practices and developments related to policy, research and design of green roofs, walls and other forms of green infrastructure as a solution to global climate change. Attendees will learn how significant increases in urban vegetation in, around and within buildings and communities can help reduce greenhouse gases, adapt to the worsening climate crises and secure a more sustainable and prosperous future.
On October 20, James Sable of greenscreen® will present “Amazing Green Walls from Across North America,” communicating the continued importance of integrating living systems into the built environment. Photos of successful large scale green walls will demonstrate specific benefits that integrate with the sustainable concepts for the built environment, while smaller scale examples will show potential for cumulative effects on neighborhoods and communities to mitigate environmental issues.
“Green wall systems offer a range of benefits beyond aesthetics and function,” explains James Sable of greenscreen®. “From promoting urban reforestation to reducing the heat island effect, green walls increase sustainability for the overall built environment. We look forward to sharing that message along with examples of greenscreen® green wall installations at CitiesAlive.”
Manufactured from recycled steel, greenscreen® green walls are comprised of a wire space frame configuration creating a captive growing space that allows plants to intertwine and grow within the panel. An easily adaptable attachment clip system allows the panel to attach to a building façade, and can span openings between floors or horizontally between posts. Unlike living walls, green wall systems are unobtrusive, installed away from the building envelope. This makes them a good choice for both new and retrofit projects.
greenscreen® green wall systems utilize plants to help increase building energy efficiency by functioning as a natural exterior shading system, reducing heat build-up indoors. This system improves air quality in both interior and exterior applications, and additionally acts as a key element in promoting urban reforestation.
CitiesAlive 2009 is the only event in North America that gathers the international green infrastructure community together to address the issues of green infrastructure as they relate to environmental, social and economic needs on a local, regional and global level. The event is being presented by Green Roofs for Healthy Cities, the City of Toronto and the World Green Roof Infrastructure Network.
