  • (1888PressRelease) June 30, 2016 - With hundreds of invited patrons working out in Emancipation Park, GraceKennedy launched its 8th Annual 5K Education Run on Monday, May 30. The event began with an official, brief ceremony at 5:15, and wrapped with a robust workout session at approximately 5:35pm.

"We wanted to launch a little differently this year, and we are very pleased with the turnout and the participation of those who came out to indicate their interest in this year's event," said Group CEO, Don Wehby. "We sense an excitement around the July 10 staging of the Run, which will benefit the young people for whom we run," he said.

The GraceKennedy 5K Education Run aids in the funding of education initiatives under the Grace and Staff Community Development Foundation in an effort to further the educational pursuits of students at the secondary and tertiary level. Students have been performing increasingly well under the Foundation's education programmes, and as such there is need for greater funding. Last year's event over saw some 4000 participants, raising $7 million. The aim this year is to double those numbers.
