Golden Hearts Foundation Awards Rainbow Warrior Scholarship To Descendent Of Kidnapped, Murder Treaty Signer

Descendent of Kangiduta (Scarlet Raven) awarded scholarship to attend George Washington University.

Los Angeles-Long Beach, CA (1888PressRelease) December 18, 2008 - The Golden Hearts Foundation of Pacific Palisades, CA is proud to announce the award of a “Rainbow Warrior Scholarship” to Matthew Thompson of Watertown, SD, an enrolled member of the Sisseton-Wahpeton Oyate. Matt is a former U.S. Senate Page in 2007, Bone Marrow Donor, State Debate Champion and National Debate Qualifier. Matthew is attending The George Washington University in Washington, DC, studying Political Communication. His plans include graduate studies in Political Communication and/or Political Management.

“Matt is a rare individual and a role model to Native Americans and anyone in this Country” says Dr. Valerie Kirkgaard, founder of The Golden Hearts Foundation. “Matt is a great-great-great grandson of Kangiduta who signed the Treaty of 1867 between his Tribe and the U.S. Government, shortly after signing the Treaty, Kangiduta was kidnapped and murdered. He is one of 36 Native Americans buried in the Congressional Cemetery in Washington, DC”.

In a conversation with the late John Denver, Dr. Valerie learned of the Rainbow Warriors. According to Native American prophecy, "There will come a time when the Earth grows sick and when it does a tribe will gather from all the cultures of the World who believe in deed and not words. They will work to heal it...they will be known as the "Warriors of the Rainbow." With this prophecy in mind, Matt is the perfect choice for this scholarship.
