Going Coastal is an EPA award winning 501(c)(3) nonprofit formed in 2003 to connect people to coastal resources by raising awareness of the coast's immense value. Through the efforts of our volunteers and information initiatives, we encourage adults and children to appreciate, enjoy, and preserve it. We believe that only by increasing knowledge about the coastal environment can we instill an ethic of stewardship, encourage ongoing interest in conservation issues, and support significantly improved safe and empowering recreational opportunities such as boating, fishing, sailing, and more.
We publish “Going Coastal New York City” a guide to coastal access in the five boroughs, now in its 2nd edition. The guidebook contributes to people’s understanding of the waterfront environment while informing them of all the ways they can enjoy the recreational, cultural, historic, and natural resources. In addition, we restored to print the WPA’s seminal 1941 work “A Maritime History of New York,” which received proclamations from the Office of the Mayor and the City Council of New York. |
