May 27, 2009 - Go Large Records announced Derek Jiles will step in as their new Vice President of Marketing and Media services in the Go Large Media Entertainment division of the record label.
Derek Jiles has officially accepted the position and has already created a $20,000 prize giveaway as his first official duty as VP of marketing and media. Jiles hails from a lengthy career in the marketing and media world and has most recently centered his concentration in the music end of the entertainment industry. Jiles was brought on board to concentrate on assisting new artists with cheap and inexpensive ways of doing things that record labels traditionally did for artists.
The first concept Jiles put into place was his brainchild idea of the contest. With over 250 submissions per week, Go Large Records encounters some great talent but can not fulfill all the requests for consultations, marketing, distribution, press and airplay because the artists lack of funds. Many artists are resistant to the new music scene and still expect a label or a commission based management firm to pick them up and ‘believe in them’, but long gone are those days. They are offering a full blown marketing campaign to 3 lucky winners and will top out at 100 entries.
“I wanted to offer something so different and so mind-blowing to a deserving artist that could not afford such a large marketing budget without a labels help,” Jiles said. We are only accepting 100 entries and we are charging a fee of $99.00 to enter. The reason behind the cost is we need to know that the artist is serious. We get emails constantly of people wanting us to financially back them and sometimes we do and sign them to our label. The danger is that they may split up and we lose our investment. So, this way we know the artist wants this as a career and we can proudly back them.”
“I am excited to a member of this company and I envision nothing but growth for us and our artists,” Jiles said. “So many artists have so many things now at their fingertips that they did not have even five years ago. We can get them a ringtone, digitally distribute their music, sell their CD’s, promote them, get them press in USA Today, Billboard, Spin, Blender, Vibe, Revolver etc., get them airplay online, at local stations, even on Sirius Satellite. Just five years ago they would have had to rely on record labels to do this for them. Not anymore. At Go Large Media and Entertainment we are so unique, we can do it all, and without a label.”
This company was created to assist artists that have no label representation to either be prepped to be picked up by a label or to be able to distribute their music to the point where they do not need a label. Labels expect to receive a talented musician all wrapped up and delivered. They want a press kit, airplay, certain number of Myspace plays, gigs booked and Cd’s sold Many artists do not have that and often get rejected when they could score a record deal or get on that commission based management roster. Jiles hopes to make the labels obsolete by doing for artists what a label would do, except the difference is that the artist will retain full creative control with all publishing rights and royalty rights over their music.
“I am here to give back to the artists,” Jiles said. So many companies are only concerned with the bottom line. We are more than just that. We actually care to see people succeed.”
Go Large Records Media and Entertainment Division has most recently gotten notoriety in the music scene for their role in getting Red November in USA Today, Vagabond on a national tour (complete with bus, TV and Radio shows all along the way), Erion international press in home country of Albania, and that was just last week. Their success rate for marketing and fan base building is increasing as the bands with talent increase.
“Our return rate is amazing,” Jiles said. If the band or solo act has talent, we can get you press, get you noticed and get your music sold. It is very simple for us because we run it like a business. We have affordable packages that run from $99 a month and up and no one in the press or marketing company can even offer that price. Most publicists start at $500 or $600 for what we can do for half that.”
Hence, why Jiles created the contest. The grand prize consists of six months of soft and hard press, marketing, airplay, electronic press kit creation, business consulting and career development. Second and third place winners will receive a scaled down version of the grand prize for three and two months. You can apply for consideration directly on their website.
