(1888PressRelease) September 04, 2008 - Gleeds, the International Management and Construction Consultancy, have recently sponsored the renowned ‘Summer School’ event for 2008 held at Trinity School, Tunbridge Wells in conjunction with Town & Country Foundation. Over the week participants have learnt and developed new theatre skills, whilst also trying their hands at devising and creating characters, learning about the silver screen, and finding out exactly what it’s like to work in a theatre.

This was a chance for nearly 30 local youngsters aged 11-14 years to work with a leading theatre company in the area, Strange Faces – an opportunity not to be missed with a mission for them to create a play from scratch in just one week. Working with a team of theatre professionals the children developed and rehearsed the full production for a public performance. Gleeds TV were there to capture the week’s activities and will give each child a CD of the film highlights from their fun packed week.

Gleeds are committed at all levels to support local community initiatives through their Y.E.S (Youth, Education, Sport) programme which has covered a wide range of activities in recent years including sponsoring the North Sydney Youth Orchestra, Karolina Bicova, an aspiring skier training course for the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver and the ‘Our Hut’ programme designed to educate primary school children about sustainability and the Built Environment.

Y.E.S is also an internal initiative which earlier this year saw a group of 25 Gleeds staff from the London office take part in the London Better Together Day by building a cockle shell path on a nature reserve on the bank of the river Thames.

Richard Steer, Senior Partner at Gleeds said “We believe that it is very important to invest in the communities in which we work and Trinity Summer School is a fine example where we can give local support under our Y.E.S programme.” He went to add “What the children have done here in a week is outstanding and of an extremely high standard, and Gleeds are proud to have been able to be a part of it.
