March 06, 2008 - GIS AMPHIBIA, a scientific research group, will be part of the French Pavilion at the Oceanology International 2008 trade show, which will be held in London from 11 to 13 March. The group comprises two units – MALTAE, which mainly covers issue relating to global heritage, through the preservation and development of the coastline, and the AMPHIBIA Aquapolis group, which carries out research into coastal development.
MALTAE is the events and training branch of the group and is responsible for organising cultural and educational projects. It identifies national and local heritage projects, works actively to open public- and private-sector research channels, and publishes and promotes research work. It is currently leading a European Union programme and is also a candidate to participate and co-organise other EU projects. MALTAE also makes archives, documentary films, relies on photography to monitor projects, and performs feasibility studies concerning restoration projects, notably on the coastline.
AMPHIBIA Aquapolis carries out studies and research in the fields of town planning, coastal development, the ecology of industrial and urban environments, coastline engineering and environmental protection. It also carries out studies into the environmental impact of changes affecting society, as well as into sustainable development strategies in coastal regions. AMPHIBIA initiates and develops amphibious projects that combine activities on land and sea, from the hills around coastal basins to the sub-aquatic fluvial and maritime environment.

The Groupement d’Intérêt Scientifique AMPHIBIA (AMPHIBIA Scientific Interest Group) is headquartered in Hyères (in south-eastern France). Its innovative research methods take into account both land- and sea-based aspects, and its partner-based, interdisciplinary culture allows it to draw on the expertise of a range of specialist partners, researchers and developers, innovative start-ups and academic spin-out companies. Both its branches are members of the Pôle Mer PACA competitiveness cluster, and participate in its Coastline Development & Environment and its Ports working groups. GIS AMPHIBIA will have a stand on the French national pavilion, which will be a UBIFRANCE pavilion. UBIFRANCE is the French export-support agency, and the French Technology Press Bureau (FTPB) is the London press bureau of UBIFRANCE.
