(1888PressRelease) February 24, 2007 - Benefiting the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention

Madison, New Jersey– On June 9, 2007, Laura Fafoutis will embark on a 20-mile walk, from sunset to sunrise, to raise funds and awareness for suicide prevention, education and research programs and support survivors of suicide loss. Net proceeds from the Out of the Darkness Overnight (The Overnight) event in New York will benefit the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP).

“As soon as I heard about this event, on the radio, I was instantly attracted to it. This is a great opportunity to raise awareness and help those affected by mental illness and suicide.”

It is estimated that close to one million people make a suicide attempt each year and that every 16 minutes someone dies by suicide. Depression is the leading cause of suicide. More than 20 million people suffer from depression each year. Tragically, suicide is the fourth leading cause of death among adults 18-65, the third leading cause of death among teens and young adults, the second leading cause of death for college students and accounts for 20 percent of deaths among people over age 65.

Participants agree to raise at least $1,000 each to walk.
