  • (1888PressRelease) March 14, 2017 - The Gift of Life Marrow Registry, a leading bone marrow and stem cell registry, will celebrate more than two decades of facilitating life-saving transplants for children and adults across the country with its 17th Annual Gala at Gotham Hall in Manhattan on May 17, 2017. At the event, two lifesaving marrow donors will meet their transplant recipients for the first time ever.

Gift of Life will also be recognizing media executive Shari Redstone with the Partners for Life Award for her staunch support of the organization and service to others in need. Based in Boston, Redstone is President of National Amusements, as well as Vice-Chair of CBS and Viacom and Co-Founder and Managing Partner of Advancit Capital. She is noted for her dedication to charitable and civic service.

The organization has roots dating back a quarter century, to 1991, when Founder and CEO Jay Feinberg was diagnosed with leukemia. The four long years he spent searching for a bone marrow donor ultimately led to the founding of an organization responsible for more than 3,000 transplants, 13,600 identified matches, and - perhaps most remarkable of all - the registration of over a quarter million potential donors.

"This has been a year of major achievements for our organization," said Gift of Life Marrow Registry founder and CEO Jay Feinberg. "We marked our 25th anniversary saving lives through marrow and stem cell donation, facilitated our 3,000th transplant and held our 10,000th donor recruitment drive. We are excited to celebrate these accomplishments, and look forward to recognizing our awardees for their resolute fundraising efforts on Gift of Life's behalf."

Other awardees include The Saul and Theresa Esman Foundation and CBRE, Inc., the world's largest commercial real estate services company. CBRE Chairman of Global Brokerage Stephen Siegel has deep ties to Gift of Life. His wife, Wendy, was diagnosed with leukemia in 2012 and her lifesaving stem cell transplant came from a matching donor found in the Gift of Life registry. Since his wife's diagnosis, the Siegels and CBRE have worked tirelessly to support the organization and raise awareness of the cause. To date, their efforts have resulted in more than 22,166 donors, 314 matches, and 34 transplants.

The gala is Gift of Life's signature annual fundraiser and supports the foundation's mission to educate and recruit donors, pay for lab testing, grow and maintain its donor registry and facilitate transplants.
