GenScript Adds Peptide Stable Isotope Labeling and PEGylation Modifications

GenScript expands its peptide modification service offerings.

(1888PressRelease) December 11, 2008 - PISCATAWAY, N.J., -International contract research organization (CRO) GenScript Corporation has added two additional peptide modification services, stable nonradioactive isotope labeling and PEGylation modification, to its existing peptide modification repertoire.

Peptides labeled with stable isotopes such as 2H, 15N, and 13C are especially useful for NMR studies. However, their production is limited by the commercial availability of correspondingly labeled amino acids. In general, peptides labeled with stable isotopes at specific sites are usually difficult to obtain. GenScript representatives claim that this limitation can be removed by synthesizing customized peptides. GenScript's stable isotope labeling offerings include 2H, 15N, 13C, or both 15N and 13C labeling, which they can label any site of the peptide.

Synthetic peptide drugs tend to have low bioavailability and limited circulating half-life in vivo due to the interplay of factors such as enzymatic digestion, renal clearance, and low solubility, and yet they represent a category of potentially potent drugs. These problems can be partially circumvented by larger or more frequent doses, but this increases costs, decreases patient compliance, and causes other snags. GenScript claims that its PEGylation peptide modification services increase potential peptide drugs' therapeutic properties by enhancing their accessibility in vivo.

GenScript’s other peptide modification services include KLH, BSA, and ovalbumin conjugation, phosphorylation, amidation, acetylation, and MAP application as well as biotin and FITC labeling. Because customers may request multiple modifications to the same peptide, prices vary.

GenScript Corporation is a reliable outsourcing partner providing a wide array of services to augment all stages of the drug discovery and biological reagent manufacturing processes, including high-quality gene synthesis and cloning, custom protein expression and purification, custom peptide synthesis and antibody development, custom stable cell line development, and a wide selection of biological reagents to life science researchers in industrial and academic settings. GenScript Corporation is headquartered in Piscataway, New Jersey.
