December 31, 2008 - GEMaffair.com felt the true spirit of the holidays this season with a Jewelry Give Away Sweepstakes on Twitter.com. The company, which specializes in selling fine gemstone jewelry on the Internet, took to the popular social media site two weeks ago to begin the contest.
GEMaffair.com offered a chance for participants on the website to win either a genuine diamond pendant and chain or a ruby heart pendant and stud earrings set complete with free USPS priority Shipping. To join the contest, one simply had to copy and paste the entry rules into their update box and hit “Enter.” There was no cap on entries from a single user, so contestants could enter everyday or several times in a single day.
Each winner was chosen at random by picking a number and counting the entries. The entry that correlated with the winning number received the day’s featured prized. Around seven hundred tweeple (Twitter users) took part in the two week long promo with the company picking several winners a day.
Michael Jansma, CEO and founder of GEMaffair.com explained, “The response has been overwhelming. We wanted to do a give away because we know this will be a difficult holiday season for a lot of people. It’s our way of giving back and thanking our customers for their interest in our company.”
The contest, which ended on December 24th, has seen over twenty winners. One winner, Valerie Mitchell, posted on her blog, “I just received the beautiful ruby pendant and earrings that I won on Twitter from GEMaffair. They even shipped it Priority, so that I would have it by Christmas. It is a gorgeous set, and they have a lot of other beautiful items at low prices on their site.”
The response has been similar from all of the contest winners. Marketing specialist, Catherine Culbertson who has been covering the contest said, “I’ve not only enjoyed the contest, but getting to know some of our contestants better. The holidays came early for all of us, as there’s nothing better than giving someone an unexpected gift. It makes their day, and since jewelry is not only the best gift to receive but also give, it made mine as well.”
GEMaffair.com plans to continue holding monthly contests on Twitter as well as instituting contests on other social media sites like Kaboodle. and Facebook. The decision to make the contests a permanent fixture of the company’s client interaction program was made by Jansma who said, “Our customers shouldn’t only be rewarded during the holiday season. We feel that we should give back throughout the year.”
